Literacy and English
Our overall focus for this term is: Enjoyment and Choice in Literacy and Engaging with Others.
In talking and listening, pupils are learning to engage with others through listening and giving their own opinions in groups and to the class. This will be done through discussions about a variety of curricular subjects and with our weekly check-ins. Pupils will also get the opportunity to give presentations to the class.
In reading, pupils will be learning to work independently to read to self, read to someone or listen to reading to help them become better readers. Pupils are also working on their comprehension of texts every week.
In writing, there will be a focus on spelling. Pupils will also be writing pieces of text related to our book study, ‘Charlie Changes into a Chicken’. They will produce a weekly news piece at the beginning of each week and the opportunity to choose their writing subject during ‘Free Writing Friday’.
Mathematics and Numeracy
This term, pupils will begin with number and number processes: place values; addition and subtraction; estimating and rounding; and multiplication and division. We will then begin working on ideas, chance and uncertainty.
PE
PE will be on Tuesday and Thursday, but please ensure your child has his/her gym kit in school in case plans should change. We are beginning with looking at playground games.
Mrs Godwin will be covering fitness in her PE sessions.
Topic Work
Our topic this term is a book study of ‘Charlie Changes into a Chicken’ by Sam Copeland.
Pupils will have the opportunity to create images in art, relating to the text, using a variety of materials and carry out creative writing tasks related to the book.
We will also be incorporating a focus on Health and Wellbeing, in our tasks, concentrating on our mental, emotional and social wellbeing.
Homework
Our main homework focus this term is spelling and reading. These will be taken home on Monday, to prepare for a spelling test on Friday.
