P1/2 Home School Information Term 1 2020/21

Teachers:

  • Mrs Marriott: Monday first thing, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Miss Shaw Monday and Tuesday.

Literacy

In phonics P1 will start learning their single sounds. P2’s will review their single sounds and the phase 3 sounds they began working on last year. (Information on the sounds we are focusing on each week will be sent via Seesaw to help you support your child at home.)

Reading books will be sent home weekly.

These will sent home on a Monday and we ask that you return them on a Friday. They will need to be kept at home for the week and then returned to school where we will quarantine them for 72hours. (All information about reading, including weekly reading homework tasks will be sent via Seesaw.)

This term in P1 we will be working hard to help all children to learn to write their name confidently and with correct letter formation. Letter formation will be in fact a focus for all of us this term. P2s will also be working on writing a simple sentence.

Topic

Mrs Marriott will be using the book ‘The Colour Monster’ as part of a cross curricular topic exploring our emotions.

Literacy: Having initially explored the book we will then have a poetry focus. We will explore a range of poems that focus on emotions and on colours. We will learn to recite some poems and create some as a group and independently. We will also explore a range of different books that deal with our emotions; comparing and contrasting them and discussing which we like and why.

Health and Wellbeing: The big focus of this book is understanding different emotions.

We will identify emotions, talk about how they make us feel and about situations when we have experienced these emotions.

Expressive Arts: We will be looking at artists’ work and say if we like it or not and give reasons. We will listen to music and talk about how it makes us feel. We will explore creating patterns in response to music, choosing appropriate colours. We will practise giving and receiving constructive comments on work we have created.

Miss Shaw will be focusing on social studies, looking at the historical figures of nurses Florence Nightingale and Louisa Jordan.

Numeracy and Maths

We will be participating in daily counting both forwards and backwards, along with lots of subitising practise, to develop our sense of number.)

Mrs Marriott will begin the term working with the children on time. Specifically looking at the days of the week, months of the year, seasons and using a calendar to plan events.

We will then move onto developing our understanding of number; how to count, create sequences and describe their order in P1 and in P2 looking how numbers are constructed, the importance of zero and beginning to look at simple place value.

Miss Shaw will be focusing on 2D and 3D shape. P1 will begin by exploring different shapes, creating pictures with them and beginning to describe them. P2 will expand on this by identifying, naming and describing their features (2D: sides and corners. 3D: edges, corners and faces.)

French

Mrs Godwin will be working with the children to learn some French. She will be focusing on greetings and talking about how we are feeling.

PE

Our PE days will be Monday and Thursday.
