Information for new primary ones and their parents and carers
We lead a number of transition activities each year as children prepare to join the school.
The first few weeks
Children are in for the whole day from the beginning. When you arrive the children will be met in the playground by the class teacher and also their buddies from the senior class who will help them out for the first few weeks.
Contacting home
We use seesaw to communicate what your child’s class or the school has been doing throughout the days/weeks/terms with pictures and video clips where appropriate.
Seesaw messaging is our main contact method between class teacher and parents, informing them of any incidents involving your child during the school day. Additionally there will be letters and permission forms for specific events and these often come out via email as we try to minimise the amount of paper we use.
We request that all staff and parents do not use social media messenger for communication of school business. Parents can speak to the class teacher at the end of the school day, although it is preferable to have an appointment.
First aid
Our first aiders are Ms Lyle, Mrs Kabala, Miss Park and Mr Inglis. If an incident happens during the school day, or your child takes unwell, it is reported to Ms Lyle in the first instance. Basic first aid will be administered but if further attention is required then a phone call home will be made.
If your child has had a knock on the head you will routinely get a head knock letter home advising that this has happened and what to do if you are concerned. In an emergency situation we will call 999 as you would expect. In the school we have two grab bags if we need to respond to an emergency and on all school trips a first aid kit is carried.
If you child needs medication during the school day this needs to be handed in to Ms Lyle in the school office with clear written instructions.
Homework
We are currently developing a new homework policy here at Lamlash Primary School.
As a Silver Reading School we value reading for pleasure and would recommend that all our puils read or are read to every night.
School committees
Our current school committees are being developed for the 2024/25 session.
At the start of the year the children choose which one they might be interested in and each committee has representatives from P1-7 on it, and is supported by a teacher.
Playtime and lunchtime
Morning break time is at 10:30 for 15 minutes and we go out in all weathers. The exception to that is when the weather is exceptionally windy and we come in on health and safety grounds. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather of that day. We do provided waterproof trousers for every member of school and can provide wellies and waterproof jackets as needed – please talk to your child’s class teacher about this.
Lunchtime is over in the high school canteen and the classes are taken over by the teacher. We have at least two members of staff on duty during lunchtime. Your child can have a free school meal (P1-5) or bring a packed lunch. When they are finished their lunch they can go over to primary to play. Primary 1s are supported by staff, but also their buddies at this time.
Class structure and teachers
We aim to confirm class structures and teachers in May each session, and share this information with parents.
In the session 2024/2 we have a P1/2/3 class taught by Mrs Marriott and Mrs MacHale, a P4/5 class taught by Mrs Southwick and a P6/7 class taught by Mrs Henderson.
Miss Gardiner covers non contact time for teachers and is also our pupil support teacher. Mrs Machale also has designated targeted support time with identified pupils.
School uniform
School uniform is red polo shirt, grey sweatshirt or cardigan, grey trousers, shorts, skirt, pinafore or dress. For PE all children need trainers or gym shoes, Lamlash PE t-shirt and shorts.
These can be purchased from Miss Lyle, our school secretary, at the primary school.
Visit the school
We are delighted when new primary ones and their parents come and visit so if you wish to have a tour of the school please feel free to arrange this.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
